Greetings from Nakiska! MRT Athletes just wrapped up an amazing 4-day Ski Cross training block in preparation for the upcoming weekend’s North American Cup Ski Cross race. Thorsen Welch and Bergen Rust attended the training along teams from Canada, Alyeska, Team Summit Colorado, Palisades – Tahoe and Carrabassett Valley Academy. Cold temps, blue ski and an amazing SX track provided incredible training for the athletes. Rust skied in her first SX track, and while a completely new training experience with the start section, table top jumps, fall aways - banked turns and roller sections; her rock-solid alpine fundamentals quickly translated to run – by – run improvements and speed. Welch jumped back into the track after his last NORAM competition last March at Copper Mountain Colorado where he scored a 4th and a 2nd in back-to-back races.  Rust returned home on the 13th fully prepared to compete at Russ Read, then on to Mammoth. Welch will be competing at the Nakiska SX though the weekend. A very solid and rewarding training experience with the quote of the project coming from a conversation between Rust and her father, MRT PD John Rust. When asked by John how she would describe the Ski Cross experience, she replied “Dad, it is like a Super G on crack”!

Cat and Mouse drill in the Start Sections. Balance, Stance, Pressure and pole plant technique all come into play along with need for perfect timing

MRT Athletes Rust and Welch exploring both “press” “pre-jump” and flight techniques. Regardless of method, a solid pre – launch preparation phase is required.
