My name is Bergen Rust, and I’m a first year FIS athlete on MRT! I was recently at a West Team project in Europe (for ski racing), and unfortunately fell and tore my acl. I am now out for this winter season, which is devastating, but also nothing I can’t overcome.

I’ve been racing since I was five and during the past couple years I’ve learned a lot about the sport- particularly the equipment, how very important it is to success, and also how to maintain and take care of it. As athletes, there are a lot of actions we can take to reap the full benefits of our efforts. Taking care of equipment helps athletes to become more confident and efficient while improving our skiing, avoid injury, and also increase the longevity of our equipment.

I was very lucky to have my dad with the experience he has, to teach me the ropes of maintaining my equipment; a role I’ve been slowly taking over and becoming more independent in for the past 3-4 years. From basic maintenance to more technical aspects of tuning, I have become increasingly confident in my abilities to take care of equipment, as it is a major role in this sport.

Now, seeing as I will not be competing or skiing during this next winter season, I wanted to find a way to stay connected with the community, the equipment, and also start saving money in order to help afford a high volume summer of focused training. Have a good winter season, and good luck to all the athletes competing this year. Don’t forget, good equipment is essential to having fun, and skiing fast!
